I’m the newbie as of this instant.

I have a Parker sight (see subject) and need clarification on the parts. Has anyone a parts diagram specific to the 4/47? I’m making sure of nomenclature and use.

See pic: (well damn, pic won’t post)

I understand the range scale is on the right (aft) side of the body as-shown. The movable elevating scale is the center piece. The vernier scale is that to the left (forward).

For “zero” of the T.Z., one does the usual things with elevation and windage knobs, and then slides the movable scale until the two “0” markings on the movable scale and the vernier scale are aligned. This also will move the rightmost notch on the movable scale to the 200y setting. Is this a correct understanding?

My rifle is a No.4/1 SN BC221xxA, fitted with an SAF Lithgow “Black Mountain” barrel in 7.62x51, reportedly built for the Australian competitors in the 70s. I have the PH 197 foresight tunnel to complement the T.Z. 4/47. I have two inserts, a 0.06” and a 0.1” post, along with the small storage drum for attachment under the stock.

Click on this link:

Then click on TZ Models (Twin Zero) and scroll down to the article regarding  TZ 4/47.  It should answer all your questions.

If the range scale goes up to 1200 yards then the scale is for .303 MkVII ammunition; if it only goes up to 1000 yards than the "yardage" scale is for 7.62mm (144~147gr) ammunition.

Most of the early AJP 4/47 sights were in 1/2 MoA graduations and the later 7.62mm ones tend to be 1/4 MoA.

Then I appear to have one calibrated for the .303 cartridge. That said, the standard .303 is 174g at 2440 fps MV IIRC. The closest .308 would be something like a 175g HPBT, albeit at a higher MV, and thus slight differences at the 200y and downrange crossover points.

Sounds like I’ll have to adapt.

Regards

Ted, ignore the yardage scale on the right and use the MoA scale on the left.
This should help you get on paper at least and make sure you record your elevations.

Thank you!

Yes, if I have the minutes of adjustment, then the 1/2 MOA clicks still tell a truth.

Keep a logbook!

Excellent feedback, sir.

Ted, a small word of caution; count the clicks between a 5 MoA vernier scale mark. 1/2 MoA = 10 clicks. 1/4 MoA = 20 clicks.

The reason for this is that some 1/2 MoA sights were upgraded in the 70's by changing the clicker situated below the adjustment knobs.

And please let us know how you get on with it?
