no4 mk1 savage loose mag

Hi thanks for the add to the site. I recently bought a no4 mk 1 savage and have found the magazine is very loose for some reason. It falls forward and causes the front of the round to jam up against the receiver. Was wondering if this was any common sort of fault with them. Its definitely a no 4 mag and the catch looks good but when the mag is fitted and i push it tight against the top of the receiver i can slide the mag back and forwards about 2mm 

Hi the magazine is a no4 and it does have a square s stamped on it as does the trigger guard. I can not see any serial numbers on the mag or the trigger guard though. the auxiliary spring is still in the mag and in one piece. the main spring also looks good. there is a bit of a dent at the rear of the magazine near where it sits into the trigger guard. Ill try to remove that and see if that helps. other wise i might try to get a new mag

 There are very tiny differences in height of the magazine catch on the magazine itself. Definitely try to get rid of that dent first. That will be the logical step. If it is right where the catch is on the magazine, that would be why your magazine is falling forward.
