I have an unopened paper wrapped cardboard box of 48 cartridges labeled 1950. Is this a common item?? Should I use them or save?? ......................Daniel

Well, I'd shoot 'em. I had a similar box and shot them. A couple of hang fires but shot ok, but not as good as reloads. I was going to reload the brass but Krikey! Some of the primers were tight! I guess you could save them for the inevitable Zombie Apocalypse...

Probably Cordite & corrosive primed. Whats the rest of the head-stamp? This is not a Kiss-of-death thing. Just "clean for corrosive" the same day you shoot them. ![]() |

they should be fine if stored properly but be sure to hold if you get a hangfire , i learned as a kid that old ammo can take a second or three to finish ignition then surprise you if your not thinking about it , you dont want an errant bullet haunting you ,

Can you take a pic of the box and the headstamp. There must be some markings on the box that identifies the manufacturer of the ammo.
Military Mk 7 ball ammo came in 48 round cartons. Four rows of 12 cartridges per box.

Brit, I will see if I can post a pic. Can't see the head stamp as the box is sealed still.
On the wrapper of the box: 48 cartridges .303 INCH Mk7 1950 Then there is an oval with an upward pointing arrow in it and under that is C.I.A. Hope that helps....................Daniel

Most likely Dominion Arsenal.
Mk 7 is cordite loaded, although by 1950, I thought all Canadian production was NC powder (i.e. Mk 7z). They may have Berdan primers. |

"7" should be cordite & "7Z" nitro. Assuming the marked the box correctly.
