I had a M1917 that was a total problem child money pit, new barrel installed but it had to have the front sight drifted all the way to left. A fellow CMP shooter who knew its issue offered to buy it and I was free of it. He and another shooter found that the "Gunsmith" who put the new barrel on didn't fully clock it, it was about a millimeter off. He may have damaged the front sight spline when he removed it because the front sight protector was a tad loose.

None of my children go anywhere near anyone who doesn't have a long and illustrious track record with the weapon concerned.

The problem is, as these rifles get older finding a gunsmith familiar with them is getting more difficult.

while i agree with the responses above in general , if you are fortunate enough to have a very close friendship with the right gunsmith it can be a joint adventure - mine had not dealt with a commonwealth martini action till i took my Martini/Enfield 1888 that had been converted by bonehill to miniature rifle [a 22cal] then converted again by some gunsmith to a 12ga trap shotgun ........till my fireing pin broke , took a week but it was replaced and functioning perfectly , my tean won our league that year

The one I did that with retired some time back. I remember loading the file cabinets from his shop with al the 4473 forms to "surrender". It was a requirement back then. No-one wanted them & after hawking them about for 3 days to various agencies we were redirected to, we ended up burning them all so he could sell the empty cabinets! The closest to a Pro Enfield Gunsmith I know is a member on here Doco Overboard.
