Hi folks my name's Greg.
Purchased a #4 mk1* that has been sported, and something of a cosmetic restoration. It's been parkerized and all new screws used to put it back together. I bought a no go gauge before I shot it, so the head space is OK. The rifle shoots very well, and I've decided I love it. It's my first Enfield and I know almost nothing about them. The gun has 3 issues however. 1)The mag has to be slammed into place to lock it into the receiver 2)The right hand rounds do not feed reliably, almost never. But the LH feeds 100% 3)It doesn't eject live or spent cases reliably. The magazine is bottoming against the receiver before the catch engages. No amount of feed adjustment has any effect. Frustrated, last night I took my files and removed a few thou's from all the spots where it's hitting the receiver. It now installs properly, and the RH rounds feed much better, but it's still not right. The bolt face is slightly worn were it has been catching the rims and may be part of the issue. I'm sure the ejection problem is nothing more than the extractor spring. A coil spring has been cobbed in under the claw and it is very weak. So a proper leaf spring will likely fix that problem. So while the issues are probably not serious and with some guidance I could likely fix them myself I still would like info on a good enfield smith any where in the country. I like the gun a lot, and would like to have it customized and fully tuned. I'm a carbine type guy and would love to have this thing shortened into a brush rifle, stripped and reblued, and professionally installed and set sights. I'm not worried about the velocity loss nor muzzle blast, and it's time for me to have a rifle built the way I want it. I think this one is a good foundation for the job. Any advice or opinions are welcome
