I bought a Nikon Monarch scope for my No4 Mk1* (sporterized). It already had (when I got it) a cheap old scope with a smaller diameter eyepiece. As I was about to mount the new one in, I noticed the rear sight (swiveling "L" type with two apertures) did not allow clearance for the larger eyepiece. Without thinking about it, I swiveled the sight down and mounted the scope, only later to discover that now the aperture blocked the bolt from entering into place.
I am tempted to remove the sight altogether and persist with the new scope. Bad idea? Does the screw need to go back in place without the sight? Anything else I should know? Am I a fool for getting close to my gun with a screwdriver, being a complete ignoramus? |
