it has to be renewed every 5 years here and the last time i did it i had my wife , daughter , a couple friends with me , so we need to renew this year , thanfully i know someone that does this and will work within the limited schedules some have - me and the wife are pretty free as we are both retired but my daughter and BIL are not , she workds daily and coaches at night he coaches as well - he volleyball and him pole-vaulting , so this gets complicated in scheduling as my friend has a business as well , but we got it set up so we all can get the class done again ,
not sure how many of us actually carry really - i do most of the time - but just having the ability to legally carry in this state is woryth having it - you can carry in your car , i do - so dont think about carjacking me [or my wife or daughter] you will be shot dead , i know every state has different laws [not right under the constitution] but they do , so we all live in different situations , i carry legally under my state law , im always good in the constitution but i choose to be legal in this state , i beleve we all should - where are you ?

Thankfully, our great Texas Governor Greg Abbot got constitutional carry passed in our state so no license needed to enjoy our constitutional right to openly or concealed carry. Having said that I renew my LTC every time as some other states only reciprocate if you're licensed. It's unfortunate that crossing an invisible line can turn you into a criminal in states like Illinois.

I got my permit probably 20 years ago, mostly because “we can”. My friends and family back in Canada have a hard time understanding this.
I rarely carry anymore, but it’s comforting to know I can if I want to. On many of our remote camping and canoe trips I carried, thinking of the movie Deliverance!
It’s sure a unique right we have, and despite what most people think, those permit holders that legally carry are not the criminals who go around shooting people. In fact, there are many examples of law abiding citizens who have stoped violent crimes and have saved lives. I know it’s hard for many here on this forum to understand this, and it probably sounds like the Wild West here in the US. |

I have had a permit to carry since I was 18 in the Army.
North Carolina is working on permit less carry. We currently have open carry with out a permit. |

In The Demokratik Peoples Republik of Marylandistan, its a royal pain to get & there are so many onerous conditions I just don't bother W&C does not mean you can W or C! That's a whole different can of worms. This is just to legally transport to & from the range or a licensed gunsmith. |

A long time Canadian chum from High school recently berated me during an online discussion regarding the Tumbler Ridge murders about my attitude to carrying a handgun for self-defense now that I live in the U.S. I explained to him about the "don't be a victim" mentality and how carrying levels the playing field, especially for those of us who are septuagenarians and older. He remained disgusted that anyone would carry something as evil as a handgun and suggested we were cowards for doing so and accused Americans of "shooting people for simply coming on our property".
I explained the legal threshold for employing deadly force to him but his deep CBC indoctrination was too much to overcome.

He drank the grape drink and will never change his mind.
I see the same mind sets in my extended my family. My cousins think the same of me. |

It's incredible how many people are afraid of guns, when they've never even seen one close up or had any reason to feel threatened.
When you think that hunting and shooting were major sports in many countries during the last two centuries. It's sad to think that politics and media have demonised a sport that is one of the few disciplines that male, female , young and old, can be compete on equal terms!

Oh it's almost a phobia. I've had people panic when I go to RC scale tank events with my M-26. I use fired & so inert .17mag cases for 75m scale model fired cases laying on the back (motor deck) I've had cops called at least twice.Even after explaining they're totally inert, no powder & no priming compound. I quit going after the second time.

There was a WWII M26 in from of Turner Barracks in Berlin Germany in the 70's. It was to be a tank gunnery range target. It ran and was complete.
The Russian had a fit when 40th Armor got it back to Berlin. Use to be run in military parades. It was fun to play with. |
