back in the mid seventies the architectural office i was working at took on a town remod project in preparation of the 200th anniversary of our country , ive mentioned it often enough here ill not belabor that story , my thoughts today are focused more on my families experience then , my fathers dixie band was preparing their summer performance at the local festival , i got involved in that event , ive discussed that as well here , so i wont belabor that either ,

what crosses my mind is that so many went out of their way to celebrate it , they put so much effort into it , it was a true celebration in my home town , i think it was the last event my father was really involved in as he died shortly after that ,

but here we are 50 years later - i never thought id see this , i cant believe its been 50 years since i was last thinking of this - back then there was no internet , there was no social media , i was drafting with a pencil and machine /parallel bar on my home based boards and the plans i drew were still printed from the original vellums i drew on , i still have the machine , the larger board and parallels bar are gone with my first retirement , had followed me from high school thru college and all the way thru life to here - that too amazes me ,

this is a momentous year in our lives , my wife and i intend to do a tip to take in the celebrations in some way , not sure what that might be yet , i dubt ill live to see the 275th spo gonna enjoy this one

Lisa and I are hoping to be able to take in some of the local celebrations this summer. We haven't had much in actual vacations so we are planning something this year.

When this country was 200 years old I was in Basic Training.

Now when it is 250 I am up there in my years.

Long may there be a America.

On the Forth of July I am going to sit on my front porch and watch the fireworks.

I like that tradition! I have percussion rifles but as yet have not gotten a flintlock. Now I have a reason to do so.

Last time I fired a flintlock I set my beard on fire!

I also set my beard on fire welding.

When I was a first attendant at the paper mill I treated a guy who had his long beard caught in a roll case. Not pretty. After that, management made a new rule no long hair unless it's in a hair net, long beards to be trimmed or get another job.

I do not own a flintlock. May have to get one. Teach the Grandbabies to shoot it.

I just might join you Paul.

Would it be inappropriate to bring my Ross of LB?  (Just kiddin'!)  I've got an American rifle laying around somewhere....I think.  Would a Winchester made P14 count?

I find the older I get the more I abhor crowds and this Fourth of July is going to be a big'un.

I shoot my Ross rifles with light target loads.

My sons shoot it as well.

At one time I took my son in law with us.

One of my sons passed him the Ross rifle to shoot. It was hilarious to see him try to reload.
