I went to the range this morning and tested the accuracy of the .312" 170grn FMJ-BT projectiles. I used the Canadian IVI cartridge cases and charged each one with exactly 37.3grns of IMR3031. I used Federal GM215M primers as well. Trim to length is 2.150" and C.O.L. is 3.085".
Elevation at the range is 5015 feet above sea level and ambient air temperature this morning was 28°F. Humidity was 98% and wind was ENE @ 1 MPH. Averaged FPS of 10 shots was 2412.7. @ 200 yards and using a 24x44 target scope, my best 10 shot group was 2.358"× 2.268". These projectiles are perfect for everyday use and every bit as accurate if not a bit better than the 174grn BTHP SMK projectiles. All of my 170grn FMJ-BT measure .312" and are actually intended for use in the 7.62x54R chambered rifles but can be used in your L-E as well...

Thanks. I looked at grafs and they have privi fmj-bt projectiles in 150, 170, 174, 182 and 190 grains, plus 150 and 180 grain sp-bt. They list them as .311. They're $19.45 per 50, regardless of which you choose. So, that's $38.90 per 100 vs the $47.99 per hundred they sell the 174 grain sierra hp-bt match kings for. I may order 100 of the 174 grain ones. By the way, Graf's will generally send a request to review the products you buy from them a few days to a week or so after your order arrives. When you do that, they send you a code free shipping on your next order. Otherwise, their shipping is $12.95.

I bought a few hundred of the PPU bullets during the SMK shortage which was fortunately temporary. I weighed them and their weights varied from 169.5 to 170.2 grains. I loaded them up not expecting too much but was very surprised to find they shot almost as accurately as the SMK's, only opening 100 yd groups up by 1/4". At their price point, they are an excellent alternative to the SMK's.

All of the ones I have weigh between 169.7 and 170.1. My main objective was to determine for myself if the Sierra 174grn BTHP SMK projectiles were the most accurate for the Lee-Enfield. I concluded from extrapolated information along with hands on testing that, these 170grn FMJ-BT are actually on Par with the 168grn Sierra HPBT for the .308/7.62. My secondary objective was to determine if I could maintain accuracy by using a bare minimum charge weight using a "Standardized" smokeless propellant such as the IMR3031. The result was found that 37.3grns will not forfeit the accuracy in the slightest, as long as your rifle has the barrel integrity to assist. For the "Average Joe" you get to still enjoy your target shooting and, at a fraction of the cost for both the projectile and powder. It is the, "Dollar General" alternative to the "Big Box Store" brand if you will...
