![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hey I’m pretty new to Enfield rifles I don’t know a lot about them. I was just hoping that you guys be able to help me identify some of these markings on one of my new Enfield no.4’s I purchased. (I bought two of them for less than $200). I know this one is a savage made one I just don’t know what the rest of the markings are. So any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, a 1942 Savage No. 4 Mk I*. It went through a Factory Thorough Repair (FTR) at ROF Fazakerley. Likely had a new barrel fitted at that time, as well as the Mk I machined micrometer type rear aperture sight.
The bolt is not matching the rifle, a different serial number. If a different bolt was fitted when it was in military service, it would have been renumbered to match that of the action body (receiver). The locking lugs should be checked and if necessary, stoned for equal contact. Then check headspace and striker protrusion from the bolt head. The markings on the barrel are post 1954 UK Proof Law marks for commercial sale of firearms. This has the Birmingham Nitro Proof (BNP) mark along with the bore diameter .303, cartridge case max length 2.222 inches, and service cartridge breech pressure of 18.5 tons per square inch. It looks like a fairly nice rifle, has it been sporterized? |

Sadly it is sporterized, I'm working on finding savage parts for it at the moment to kind of return it to its glory. And thank you very much for all the info on it I really appreciate it!
