I
I have finished and fitted the woodwork to may latest No8. Thanks to you guys and all the advice I am happy with my first attempt at refinishing the woodwork with BLO. I've learnt a few things too,( like if you put it on too thick you've got to start again!) Here are some photos, before and after + some detail. ![]() Before. The middle No8 iis the latest arrival, (with the No5 receiver) ![]() The lower one is the refinished No8. I have not done anything to the metal work. ![]() After removing the old varnish I did only minimal flatting with fine wire wool, to keep all the markings; I even found some hidden under the old varnish. ![]() Took it to the range yesterday; shoots well too! 98/100 prone and 89/100 standing, on the 50 metre range and C50 target. These are so much fun to shoot!

Nice job!
You'll find as the oil ages a little the color will drift a little too. If you start to see "blotchy dry spots" after a while it means the oil has been absorbed more locally because of variations in the wood. Just put another light coat on overall & rub it in & they'll eventually saturate & stay totally even. That's one reason for those "one coat a month for a year" fininshing up instructions.

I was getting some blotchy patches on the earlier coats; mainly in the steamed areas. I will give it another coat as necessary if they re-appear.

One of the benifits of an oil finish is that if you accidentally get a scuff (as I did) you can just do a local touch up & it just goes away!

I know a man that has 3 No8's, he might sell one; but I think it would be complicated exporting it to the USA. As well as expensive (european prices). You might find one in Canada maybe
