Carried a bigger bomb load than the B17 and with only 2 crew and didn't get shot down so often.

..didn't get shot down so often because it went like stink! Plus, it was actually a very formidible fighter, & because of it's wooden construction - could take alot of puishment,& still come home

I had the privelidge of working on a Blitz & a Mosquito (RS712 aka EG-F) as a Volunteer at "Skyfame" museum in Staverton. It was later used as one of the flying units in  "633 Squadron". No-one knows what happened to the Blitz when the place was forced to close & the collection dispersed.

The great beauty of it was that it used freely available materials (wood) and could be largely assembled away from aircraft factories.
Known as Freemans Folly it was initially rejected by the Air Ministry and Air Chief Marshall Freeman had the first one made at his own expense.

It may have been Nazi, but I really likes the Ar234 (b) the skids on the (a) were a truly  stupid idea (once it landed you had to take a crane & a trolley just to taxii it back to the hangar.
