Recently purchased a sported No. 1 Mk. III* but i am having trouble coming up with a maker as all the original markings have been polished off. The only marks i find are the importer/bubba, which is Globe. Other than that there is the letter M on the cocking piece and MA on the bolt head. The first letter on the serial number on the bolt handle is a B but all the rest is pretty much unreadable. There are no other serial numbers left anywhere. The bolt may or may not be original either. I am going to get the head space checked before i shoot it. It doesn't like to chamber Winchester 180gr. soft point but it will chamber Federal with no problem.

Definatley sounds like a take to Gun smith & get checked job to me. Sounds like it's a Mix & Match job .......That's not to say it isn't a shooter trust me on that ! I once brought a Mk111 manufactured in 1922 & it had a 1902 bolt !!!!! The bloke had been shooting it for years with Mil surp ammo & just didn't realize

My sporterized no4 have diff number on the bolt and magazine
the rifle is mk1 and the bolt say mk 2 the back sight also say mk 3. is there any problem with having a matched rifle like that or some problem can occur or its just that the value iof the rifle is lower? Mine been shooting really well for now, i ever think, if it work well no need to make changes to it. |

The most important is that the number on the bolt and the number on the action (reciever) match.
If they do not then the fit of the bolt should be checked as should the headspace
Sight and magazine numbers do not matter

Well, i took my chances yesterday, strapped the rifle to a tire and pulled the trigger with a string. Works perfect. No signs of problems with the cases or any other trouble. Put 20 rounds down the pipe with no sign of any issues. Also nice to see a 10 round group of 3 1/2 inches @ 100 yards. Still think i may get a gunsmith to check it out all the same.

Man am I disappointed! The best any of my Enfields will do is about a 5" ten round group at 100 yards strapped to a tire. Maybe I am jerking the string instead of pulling

Try different Tyre sizes ! You might be using a 13 inch Tyre & a 14 inch could make all the difference !!!!!! ![]() Dave |
