My son and I have been squirrel hunting the last three days with our .410 Ishapore .303 conversion. Monday we go to 60 acres that belongs to the family to squirrel hunt. My son decides he want to sit in a two man buddy stand I have set up for deer. It just happened to be in a grove of white and red oak trees so not only will the deer feed on the acorns the squirrel will feast as well. So after 20 or 30 minutes he cannot sit still any longer, (remember now he is 5 years old, will be 6 this coming November). So we decide to return him to the house and I would return hunting. He changes his mind and we sit longer. Seeing three targets over the next 30 minutes and retiring them to the gunnysack we again decide to leave. Half way up the trail to the truck we decide to sit by an oak tree and hunt some more. We harvest three more trophies. We are about to leave and along came 10, yes ten Whitetail bucks three 8 plus points or larger. Wow you should have seen the young boys face! So we watch for 20 minutes or so these Deer feast on Honeysuckle vines and persimmons. We leave and go home and clean our bounty. We did not tag a deer because it is not gun season right now and there out of season till next month. I did stick one last week during archery season thou.

Day two Tuesday evening we go hunting again, my son decides he likes the place where we seen the deer the day before so we sit down and embed ourselves in the foliage to hide and wait for the squirrels to come from there nesting areas. It has been cold all day so we both are bundled up. We harvest another 7 furry-tailed nut eating fur bearing tree dwellers in 45 minutes or so. After all the excitement my boy decides he is sleepy and crawls over in my lap and goes to sleep. Well no sooner the he falls fast asleep a herd of Whitetail Does and 6 fawns ease by of hide out. I slowly attempt to wake my son so he can see the wild life in its natural habitat eating. After ten minutes of gently waking him he raises to see a fawn with in a meter or so of our location. And steadily walking in our direction. The fawn is almost with in touching distance when it stops and just looks at the both of us. I tell him to slowly reach out to try and touch the spotted youngin. He almost succeeds when the fawn hobbles off into the woods to join its mother. We leave and again return home to clean our bounty.

Day three Wednesday evening we return again to the same tree and camouflage our self’s in the foliage. No deer today but we added another 6 eastern gray squirrels to our bounty.

In the last three days my son has learned more about hunting the first 6 years of his life. He cannot wait for me to get home now and carry him off to feed his family as he puts it.

Guys thanks for taking the time to read my story. Yep you guessed what we are eating the next few days

Wow thats an awesome story mate
But the winters coming,

And the snow will cover tracks,

And I'll be watching,

Because I'm hunting you

That must have been amazing for a child to see. Actually I'd like to see it myself. These are going to be great stories to tell his friends and memories for years to come.
Plus your son now knows that there is more to wilderness than just going in and shooting game and leaving. Thumbs%20Up

Empty handed seen a few, I did not think I could get a good shot so I declined the attempt. Did see several Turkeys and two deer so it was still a very good day.
