Hoadie,

You are OK in my book regardless of what anyone says / writes about you.

You are on a quest to save a bit of history from being lost. I raise my glass to you my friend on your quest. I wish we all had such a quest.

It's worth getting one and see if it can be rehabbed, dontcha think? If it's just a bit of weld out on the end, it shouldn't be too awful hard to be out with the right tools.

not certain how the system works in your country but here the rifles that the legions/VFWs have are 'on loan' from the government , still property of the service and not legally saleable , perhaps its differant there ,

good luck on your efforts , just getting them out in the daylight is a nice thing

These rifles-as with any Legion thats uses them-are the property of the Legion Branch, & purchased through their own funds.
In the case of U.S., I believe they use the Garand. It's dubbed:"America's Rifle". When I sold mine back to the U.S.Army, I was told that they are trying to recover as many as possible.(So I can see the logic there).
