Chamfer and Deburr

 

First neck/full size and de-prime your case.

Put case in Zip Trim and trim the case (or use what ever trimming method you prefer). You MUST trim non-straight wall cases EVERYTIME you reload.

Now that the cases are all trimmed to the same length chamfer the inside of the case mouth using one even speed pull and not too much pressure on the tool.

Now one pull deburing the outside of the case. Again not too much pressure.

You should notice a very slight shiny line inside and outside of the mouth. You should also be able to very slightly align the base of the bullet to the case mouth so that is starts going in straight.

 

I prefer the Zip Trim for several reasons. Firstly it gives me a repeatable amount of turns the case goes through. Secondly the case sits nice and straight every time. And lastly I can perform 5 actions by just changing the tool in my one hand (check for case head separation stress lines, trim, chamfer, debur mouth and debur flash hole). Ok a 6th action, which I very seldom have to to, is to remove bad tarnish with 0000 steel wool. I also try and do a good few cases at a time as you get into a rhythm and the work is done more consistently.

 

Lastly my cases get a 1 hour tumble. I do wash my cases after sizing and de-priming then case prep. It gives me nice clean cases to work with and takes off any lube and loose dirt so my medium lasts a very long time.
