What is the correct metal finish for the No8 Rifle; and what is the best way to restore it? I ask this because my recent purchase appears to have been painted satin black with poor quality paint. The rifle is in good condition, but the only thing I'm not happy with is the fresh paint that was applied before they sold it to me; it chips off very easily, so is obviously not up to the job. This rifle is a shooter so it's going to look like crap pretty quickly if it keeps coming off. How should I remedy this?

Does anyone know what should be the correct finish for my No 8? I thought maybe someone could point me in the right direction. I am considering having the paint removed and getting it "bronzed". Please help before I do something stupid!!

I thought it was the "suncorite"paint over parkerising, the same as all other Lee Enfields?

Thanks Shamu. I contacted Jim at EFD Rifles and they confirmed it was Suncorite paint. He also mentioned it was made from "Unobtainium"! (I like his sense of humour) Suggested I use Hammerite satin black or similar. I will see how the wear and tear goes over the next few months.

Yeah they (the ubiquitous they) bannned it because it has some carcinogens in it. Maybe it's not banned in France? Ask if anyone there uses "Suncorite 521" currently distributed by LocTite here in the US. "Henkel" is listed as the manufacturer. There was one place still doing suncorite refinishing in the U.S. "Brian D1ck, USA Ltd" supposedly still offers the service here: (I had to spell it oddly, the "naughty word filter" was replacing his last name with asterisks)
