I finally got the parts needed to fit the AG Parker sight to the No1 rifle.
The mounting plate was easy to fit; but requires longer screws (these were purchased in the USA). I used a laser (DIY type) to check alignment of the original sights and the new dioptre. I was very pleased to find it a perfect fit; having checked it at 200 yard and 1000yard adjustments to ensure it stays in line when altering the range. ![]() the upper screw was temporary! now replaced with a knurled brass screw. The first range test showed that this rifle is probably as good as it's going to get with standard bedding. I used the L39 to shoot a target for comparison and have got very close with the No1. Despite the trigger pull still being over 6lbs on this test. ![]() L39 on left and No1 rifle on the right. shot at 50 metres using 10m air pistol targets; no windage adjustment carried out on this test. Both rifles shot 5 rounds without checking through spotting scope until all 5 were fired. |

I plan to use this rifle in the modified class of our service rifle competitions. I will use the No4 in the standard class.

Since finishing the sight fitting, I had one last bit to sort out.
The trigger weight of the second stage of the trigger was just over 6lbs or 2,75 kg. When shooting it after the L39 you can really feel the difference and it's easy to pull the first shot. Our competition rules require minimum 1,75 kg; so there is plenty of room for improvement (without going too far) Measuring the cocking piece face of the No1 rifle confirms it's the standard 4° off square compared to the L39 angle 10° which weigh's in at about 1,75kg (or 3,85lbs). I decided to set the cocking piece face to 6° using my home made rig and get a high polish on the surface. This has improved the feel and it's now about 2,2kg (or 4,8lbs). I will keep it at this weight for now and continue testing loads and powders etc. NOTE: From a safety point of view it is essential that if the trigger is pulled to 1st stage only, then released; the sear should slide back up the face. This is vital if you are working on the trigger pull.

Try a small dab of grease on the cocking piece front face too. I do that all the time now with an embedding moly type grease & its done wonders.

I have been using light oil, but will try some molybdenum grease.
