Hello

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this or if Off Topic Section is the place to go, anyway this sort of relates to Military Service.

I got an E-mail last Friday night from someone who was in my Squadron. Just out of the blue, I got an E-mail from someone I had not seen or heard from since May 1993.

In turn hearing from him got me in contact with another squadron memeber. I just got part of my youth returned in a wierd way. Of all the positive aspects of Military Service, this ranks right up at the top. Not really a big, but I wanted to share that anyway.

I would not trade it for anything. I looked at one bloke's "My Space" page, after not seeing him since '93, looked just the same. It has just hit me in the last couple days that I was in the company of some really great, intelligent, talented, people, they/we were/are incredible.

I spoke to one bloke on the phone last night. He lives about a two or three hour drive away, odds are I will end up visiting him soon. The other bloke I got an E-mail from lives on the other side of the North American Continent. Odds are I will run into him someday as well. There are a few other people I'd love to hear from again, so we will see what happens.
It is really strange...I feel more of a connection to these people now, over a decade later, than I did then...strange...LOL.

My platoon at the time the HSF was disbanded ( I am the Sgt behind the 'H' ) .  Some of them formed a walking club and it has been going ever since. When I moved to France I stayed in touch and last September 4 of them cam over for a weeks holiday in our gîte. I am still sobering up Thumbs%20Up
Duncan.

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.

I have one Old Mate whom I keep in contact with as his as mad these days as when we were in the regiment ! Once cowering behind a Levy in a rice paddy ,whilst trying to convince the other guys to pack it in & leave us alone ,Gary remarked to me ...........Win ,Draw ,Lose !!!!!........You've got to love this job ! LOL When things start getting too much I ring him & he has me laughing until my sides hurt ! The Idiot used to have a Glove Puppet ! Who he reckoned controled his mind ! He was once put on a charge his defence being the Puppet had been standing Guard duty not him !!!!!!! LOLLOLLOL

Mad don't even begin to describe Gary! Most people tend to calm down as they get Older ! I reckon it's that Damned Puppet ! It stiil controls him after all these years ! He once told a CSM that the puppet (no more than a issue sock ) Had told him (Gary) that it was Satan & had possesed him !!!!!!!LOL The CSM suitabley impressed decided to become a Priest ! & preformed a Exercisisum on Gary by sending him on a 12 fun Run followed by 50 pushups everyday for a week !

Dave I am pretty much rolling round on the floor in stitches!

Was he trying to get discharged for being a nutter or what?

No Mate ! He was one of the bravest soldiers I ever met ! He just has a rather differant way of viewing he world ! I might add he was awarded the DSO! Which I might add he pinned on that damned Puppet  (claiming it told him to Clap)  He won it when durring a contact  he climed a tree to get a better view of the enemy .He claimed he belived in giving the Tax Payer  top value for their dollar !

Sounds like the kind of mate you want when things get silly. I know a couple of guys that spent plenty of time trying to mess with either CSMs, QSMs or any other higher up NCO...me included. One time (out of many) I pulled extra duty for turning up to Sunday parade a little tipsy. I was bleeding like a sieve because I just had to be shaved.....WO came up...."Joseph 0 - Gillette 4, see you every morning at 6 for the next two weeks" The next morning, wanting to be all I could be, I gave myself a hair cut, I shaved all the hair around the sides and left about 3mm on top...because I was wearing a beret, I thought he would be impressed......He asked me to take off my beret...I complied, he let me know...."Corporal Joseph, that is a radical haircut" ....I let him know that I thought it was pretty cool too.........had to shave everything off and pulled another 2 weeks as duty driver........I have many more, you should have seen my discipline record when I got out after 6 years.....good reading I think!! BTW, if you can't be a galah in OZ, where can you be one!!
Get some
