Looking for a top section that still has the sides that go at the base of the rear sight. Someone has chopped them off on my rifle.
The rifle is a 1917 Lithgow, No2. I am not sure what the lower wood is, it looks like it has been refinished anyway The current chopped top section I think is walnut.

I will take whatever I can get, as long as it has the sides.

The extensions to the handguards sometimes called "ears" frequently got cracked and it was not uncommon for unit armorers to simply cut them off if the rest of the handguard was servicable

I recived the reproduction top grip today and fitted it to my no.2 It fits ok, but you can certainly tell its not a original item. Once I strip off the varnish on the lower section and buy a decent wood stain to make them match it should serve its purpose well enough until I find a decent original.

Looks to be a good fit.

It is a lot easier to match a light coloured wood to a darker one than vice versa.

My go to is Fiebings oil based leather dye in walnut.

i will bow to anyone's recipe for the finish , i have always reverted to the method i used to refinish cabinetry known as 'dry brush' , you use multiple stains with multiple soft bristle china brushes and blend them by dipping and voiding the brushes on the can then blending by over brushing and mixing , it takes a long time but you can get a perfect match , then you oile the wood as traditionally done with BOL
