Well, the first thing we need to know is what model you have. That makes a big difference on figuring out the manufacturer. If you could post some pictures that would make things easier.

I see them now. They take a bit to show up as your first 10 posts have to be approved. It's a defense against spammers thing. What you have is a No 4 Mk 1. If that is the original serial number then that would put it at being made at the Fazakerley factory.

Looks like a No4 Mk1 (no star). No cut in the bolt raceway, tie strap, not cross-bolt, no 4 (or 5) sights. The receiver left wall is fuzzy but seems to agree? |

I thought a C in the Serial number meant Savage but it does not have the "U.S. Property Mark"
but it is an Enfield so anything is possible

The C in a Savage serial number will be within the number itself, not in the prefix letter. Example for a Savage SN# 73C2642. This rifle was made at the Fazackerly plant CA2*****
No4 serial number examples. Maltby: AK13057 Fazackerly: PC26277 BSA Shirley:B30871 Long Branch:57L0835

it seems confusing but there is a method of sorts to the madness , based on contrast i think bear has it correct , the serial numbers are keyed to those in spite of prefixes

There should be a year/month marking somewhere? Something like "5/44" (May 1944)
