Very nice rifle with matching numbers. One feature that is most interesting is the laminated stock. This rifle shows that even though Mauser Oberndorf were running short of good lathe operators, they could still find some good quality plywood to make rifle stocks. I have a byf 45 that spent some time in Israel after the war. Mine is not as nice as this one.

Very nice K98, MJ. I miss the ones I had. I had a couple Russian capture rifles. Both were S/27's, one made in '37 and the other in '38. I've thought about getting back into them but the cost keeps me away. I can get 2 nice Enfields for the price of a single K98 anymore.

Look at the pic of the top of the bolt handle and the rear of the receiver. The wood there shows the layers of the laminated wood.

BYF 44 bayonet numbered scabbard and blade just not to this rifle. Someplace I have a 1944 pebble double K98 ammo pouch too. Not my area of focus which are Enfields but when I saw this rifle at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in the mid 1980s I could not walk past it. |
