Tomorrow is remembrance Sunday.
I will be at Bisley having organised my Clubs's annual Remembrance day competition. This year is the 80th anniversary of WW2 and, for the first time, WW2 rifles will be eligable for our competition. Just before11 am we will stop, check clear and dress back behind our rifles and after the following is read out....
They shall not grow old, as we that are left go old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Then we will observe the 2 minutes silence.
We are remembering them.

Does anyone know where to get a poppy on the left hand side of the Atlantic?
I've drawn a blank.

Not it time for tomorrow, BUT if you PM me with your postal address I will make sure you don't have the same problem next year (it will be the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the 75th. anniversary of the end of WW2).

WW1 ended over 100 years ago. The war to end all wars. The poppy, from the fields in Flanders so long ago immortilized by Lt. Col J. McCrae of the CEF, was chose to represent a symbol of all veterans of Britian and their  Commonwealth countries, along with their Allies, that gave their lives in the mud and the he!! on the Western Front and other foreign lands that ended in  1918.Since then, it now has become not only a symbol of the ultimate sacrifice our men and women in uniform , it also is a salute from these counties citizens to these warriors.

My head bowed at the 11th hour, 11th day, the 11th month,

funny you mention that i was just asking if anyone had seen one here - the answer is no so far , i have always bought a poppy here , i grew up with that and hate when these traditions vanish , we all too often forget what others gave there lives for - we need to remember

 - its why the communists feel empowered to take over our country these days - tell them NO in no uncertain terms - where the heck is joe mccarthy when we really need him [i hate the tactics - but i respect the intentions] we need to reclaim our country from the socialists , as do others before they are bankrupt and destroyed , it is about the people claiming sovereign rule over the government , if we care to ---i do ,

Poppies are readily available up here in Canada, so I'm sure something can be worked out to send them down south , for next year.

If you can figure what demand, Shamu, let me know and I'll talk to the Legion.

I have no idea.
I do usually go to a very large (over 1,300 tables in 2 large halls) gun show in Virginia at this time of year, maybe I could become a volunteer poppy seller there if the organizers would let me?
It would be a sort of Targeted Audience & I know DAV & others do operate there.

We attended our village memorial here this morning. The names of the fallen are read out by the Mayor of our village; followed by a "vin d'honour" afterwards.
It's important!

I was at our village war memorial yesterday. I am usually the only one there, everyone else had gone to the Remembrance  Sunday service the day before. To my surprise the entire local Primary School turned out and the Head Teacher conducted a  service the theme of which was RESPECT. It was very moving to see 5 to 11 year old children taking part.

As it goes for the fallen, the same to the children... I WILL REMEMBER THEM.

We usually have 2 Clubs  but the guest Club didn't come this year. This was because we couldn't get our usual date and had to hold it on Remembrance Sunday.

We did however raise over £150 for the Poppy Appeal. This year we also accepted rifles from WW2 this being the 80 anniversary  of the start of it, on this side of the pond.
