if I want to restore this rifle to an original full military stock can the my butt stock be kept or do I need to replace all the wood so that it all matches. where would I look for stocks? were any enfield stocks walnut? would I need to do anything to the metal? I cannot find my bore light so I adlibbed with a piece of white paper for a reflector & a mini mag-lite & the bore looks good. I have no way to measure it but a bullet point inserted in the muzzle is a tight fit & the muzzle is not elongated vertically.

Sorry about the 20 post rule, everyone hates it but it keeps the spammers out & you'd hate them even more!
Something to consider. When they were issued they wee not "rare collectors items". They were desperately needed working battle rifles in a time of war.
Matching wood would not have been a real high priority.
E-bay has them, Liberty tree has them. They are rapidly increasing in price, so don't delay. They will never go down at this point.

I 've been mulling this over & the near $300.00 for the ebay stock is just not in my budget right now. this isn't urgent so I'll bide my time & watch for a deal. a new development is that there is an Enfield collector in my local gun club. we're getting together next week at the club range where I'll see what this rifle ( & myself ) are capable of. I have decided on buying an Addley Precision scope mount. I have several good scopes on hand. how much clearance there is from the receiver will determine which scope I use.

I assume you've gone to the Addley Precision web site. You will need to inspect your rifle on the left hand side of the receiver to identify if the ledge angle is a 45 deg or radius cut. Also, as they use the ejector screw hole as one of the mounting points (you get a new hex head one) I suggest you ask for one that uses a larger he's wrench as the one that comes originally is small and for me, anyways, easy to strip. They are very accommodating! You will also need to remove the peep site. Save all your parts. You will probably have to file the ejector screw for the correct length. I have four of these mounts and all needed about 2 threads removed to clear the bolt.

I have a photo editing program, from there its just copy, size, drag & paste then save as a .JPG which flattens all the layers.
This is it, its a free download. Very powerful, but a bit hard to learn at first. There are lots of tutorials on U tube showing how it does things.

You can do it with the imaging app in windows as well. It's a bit clumsy but doable with practice.
