Bought a Savage no. 4 no 1*. Been running foaming bore cleaner through 4 times. Still getting copper out, keep going til it stops?
Thanks...Frank

There is some very knowledgeable members on here that have "magic cures" for stuff like this. They'll be along shortley. BTW: Welcome to the site. If you have some pics of your new acquisition - we'd like to see them. Warning: Take the member named "Paddy O'furniture" with a grain of salt. He's a bit "different" |

Yeah it takes a while. Its in layers, every time yo strip one layer the next one pops up. If you have any J.B. Bore paste try that, following the instructions. Hoppes no 9 also works, wet the bore thoroughly, with patches, no brushing. Stand muzzle down on folded newsprint over night Dry patches the next morning then more wet. It will eventually quit then do a final one with brushes as you probably do anyway. Let the solvent do the work, more barrels have been ruined by brushes than anything else. M Pro-7 COPPER REMOVER can be used the same was as can Hoppes Elite, which is basically the same thing.

Make sure the blue is not coming from the jag you are using, copper cleaner will eat brass jags.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, works as well as Boretech Eliminator. But you must use a mild steel or aluminum jag, you will get false indications otherwise. Sham is right, there are layers of carbon ironed over with copper fouling. The nice thing about Eliminator is it readily dissolves both powder and copper fouling very quickly. A Borescope will show that even Hoppes 9 takes many days of soaking and cleaning to remove all the copper. I typically use Hoppes 9 after every shoot for a few months of shooting (500 -600 rounds) then clean out with Eliminator. |

If rust, brush with a bronze brush. JB paste on a tight fitting patch and alternate with Kroil if you have it.
