They were also made in many different countries so there are lots of variations. I'm still trying to definitively ID one of mine.

I would like to piggy back on this thread. Unfortunately I can't
see the prior photos, the links seem to be dead. I would like some help
identifying this Australian leather frog for a P07 1944 bayonet. I
can't find any reference to Leather Frogs, only the more traditional
webbed frogs. This frog has a Broad Arrow and the letter "L" stamped on
the front, and on the back "GOLDSEAL SYDNEY 1942". I don't have a photo
of this. I did find a Skennerton reference suggesting in late 1941 the
"J. Ludowci Ltd" company took over leather work from Lithgow. Maybe
the "L" stands for them, although I can't find any additional reference
to them or GOLDSEAL in my reference books or on the intraweb.
Interesting
observation - the bayonet is sharpened, and at first this disappointed
me. However, Skenerton references that in August 1944 sharpening of the
backedge of the bayonet to the point was approved, and this is a 12/44
bayonet. Although I am not sure what is the back edge. Any assistance
on the leather frog would be appreciated.
