I enjoyed shooting my No1 Lithgow with it's Parker-Hale 5A aperture sight so much this year that I'm tempted to try and locate a Parker-Hale sight for one of my No4's. My only problem/question is both rifles I'm considering mounting this on have the Walnut cheek piece installed, one a No4 Mk2 sniper clone the other an L42A1 clone in .303. I'm guessing proper eye alignment would not work as these sites were were probably meant to be installed on a No4 with a standard stock. (Might have to buy a new rifle!) Anybody shoot a No4 with P-H sights and a cheek piece? Thanks!

My L39A1 had the cheek piece added to it's standard No4 butt by a previous owner. The rear sight is the TZ 4/47 which is very similar to the PH5 in it's basic layout. It's very pleasant to shoot. I've not noticed the cheek piece; so that tells me it's not in the way.

I don’t know about the Parker Hale sight but I quite like having the cheek piece when shooting the military iron sights on my No.4.

If you have a choice, go for the AJP 4/47 rather than the PH5C. The 4/47 is a much better engineered sight. The eye-piece threads are the same and you might even come across a JH Steward eyepiece (the Rolls Royce) they not only have five 'built in' coloured filters so you can shot from Dawn till Dusk and even over snow and still have a sharp image, they also have an infinitely adjustable 'iris' (like a camera) that you can open up or close down. You can have a 'yellow filter' with a 'wide open' iris, or a closed down iris' (or anywhere in between) you can have a red ........... a blue, no filter etc etc They can also be fitted with prescription lenses (if you wear glasses) A superb bit of kit. Actually if you replace the standard front sight blade with a globe type tube sight it will raise your sighting plane. they are comparatively inexpensive & just replace the existing blade. The P-H rear sights have plenty of vertical adjustment to compensate.

Heres the TZ4/47 with an adjustable eyepiece that has a lens for eye correction slight focus adjustment.
It's very useful if you wear glasses! |

I'm afraid to ask but if I can find one, what would I be looking at in regards to price?

I don't know Canadian pricing but a PH5C (or AJP 4/47) with a JH Steward eyepiece in the UK would add up up to be approaching the same price as a GOOD No4 rifle.

In shooting prone, my cheekbone is resting on my right thumb, it needs the additional inch or so to get correct eye alignment thru the aperture sight. Shooting off the bench, you head position is typically further back as your body us upright and you don’t need to support your head in the same way as you do in prone. If you shoot prone for a few hours, you will know what I mean....
Same way the good WO does it in the “Shoot to Live” Canadian Army instruction book. |

...or, you could PM me and we can both come to a mutual agreement on purchasing this PH5C from me...
