Stopping in to say Hi as a new member.

I have a No4 Mk1 I've had for quite some time, I picked it up for $45, the guy said it was inoperable as it wouldn't feed rounds, they would pop up and flip out as the round was being pushed out of the mag. So I had a quick look and realized he'd taken a pair of pliers to the tangs on the mag... easy fix and a great price too.

I want to find out what the markings tell me about it.
Some of the markings I've seen searching thru the posts, some I haven't so I'm hoping the gurus here and shed some light on my rifle.

I've figured out the ROF and the F(FTR) others I can't seem to decode, to me the one at the muzzle end of the barrel may be the most telling?
I have images of every other marking i could find but I will spare everyone.. I'll post more if needed.

Cheers!
Jim

Hi,
Welcome from Blenheim, New Zealand.
Sorry, I can't help with the markings but you're certainly at the right place for that as some members of this forum have extensive knowledge on the subject Wink
Cheers

Welcome from Phoenix Arizona.
Great buy for $45 bucks. Does it still retain all the original furniture?
The stamp on the muzzle is an importers mark that I cannot remember the name of the company right now. Someone else will fill in that blank for you.
The rifle was originally manufactured at the Fazackerly plant, hence the Royal Ordnance Fazackerly (ROF) and then went back to Fazackerly for a Factory Thorough Repair.  Your rifles serial number D29040A. The A suffix indicates that something on that rifle was/is parts specific to the master component, ie reciever. The FTR could have taken care of that however after the fact. The 5142 stamp is my puzzler.  That might have been a rack number at one time.

The muzzle stamp is an "Angry Beavers" mistake. Its confirmed by the stamp next to it.
It should read "303 UK" (the caliber)
& CAI St alb Vt is the import marking for Century Arms International. Home of "The Angry Beavers"!

It's all original except for the butt stock, it's clearly a newer replacement.

Thanks for all the info on my rifle!

"Angry Beavers" I love it...lol

It has a new name.. "the Beav".. hahaha

I did notice from looking at other posts that my trigger is still part of the trigger guard assembly and not part of the receiver... Could that be the A designation in the serial?

Nope. It went through a FTR without the Mk1/2  upgrade trigger mount to the reciever. The A suffix is usually there to indicate that something like the bolt or barrel is specific to the rifles action for whatever reason the armourers came to that conclusion for...

Welcome to the forum.
The FTR appears to have a 1946 date; so it would have remained no4Mk1 spec. The FTR's to mk1/2 with the receiver hung trigger started in 1949 I believe.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Here are some pics of the bolt, I didn't see anything that matched on the the bolt to the receiver or barrel.

The bolt is not matched to the reciever.  The serial number on the reciever is not the same numbers on the bolt. Have you had the headspacing checked and has the bolt been inspected for even contact on both locking lugs?

No I haven't, looks like I'll need to have that done.
