With the holidays approaching, I want to say Thank you
To all my brothers and sisters in the service that have relieved me from standing guard.
I know all to well there's no harder time to be away from home and loved one's than the holidays. It Sucks.
So let me say thank you Soldier's for all that you do.
You all we be in my thoughts at this time carry on!!

I can relate one Thanksgiving we were stateside, homeport San Diego. A shipmate asked me what I was going to do today, I said nothing, he said let's go in town to the USO. I said for what, he said they have a sign up for service men to go to local families for a home cooked Thanksgiving meal, has to be better than eating on the ship.
So in we go, all we had to do was let them know what our religion was. As it turned out this guy picked us bought up, and he said he had to kill some time so the wife could get the meal ready. So he was taking us for a ride. He asked if either of us were hunters, I said
I was, he said great, I'll show you were I shot my last buck .he takes us to the outskirts of Chula Vista, which at that time was all desert, sand dunes open nothing.
He stops the car and says right here is were I shot my last buck. I said you have to be kidding, no deer in it's right mind would stand out in this open area.
He says they do.well no deer from the Northeast would be caught dead out there.
He took us to his home, and his wife had a wonderful
Home cooked Thanksgiving Day meal for us. dont know if they had any children or not, it was just us him his wife and two sailors. Never will forget that Thanksgiving, couldn't thank them enough. Sure beat instant mash potatoes and cold Turkey roll.
