Wow, I'm glad I asked. I did notice ofn talking to him there was mention that he has sold reproductions to people, but this wasnt one. But how would you know I guess. So seems the thought is that this is a fake!?! Might have saved me a ton here guys! |

You might want to look into knowingly getting a high grade rebuild. One of our members on here (Honkytonk IIRC) did just that. He had a guy in Canada IIRC build him a custom SMLE from all original, but refurbished parts. It was almost identical to the one in the add, right down to the traditional Lithgow brass forearm band. I have no idea what he actually paid, & thats his business, but there was a couple of threads on it all a while back. Let me see if I can find them, maybe he'll put you in touch if thats your thing? Maybe he'll chime in if I got it right.

Not sure the wood is all modern reproduction but clearly not an original from lithgow factory as the add might lead one to think.
Good advice to stay away from this one for that ridiculous price. For the record though, to make a correction from an earlier post, all rifles from lithgow factory were assembled from new with numbered nosecaps. |

slightly confused. the OP posted an ad from Oz Gun Sales but members are talking about a rifle from HF & Reproductions. when I looked at HF & Reproductions facebook page they seem upfront about telling people that their rifles are reproductions'. is Oz Gun Sales the same as HF & Reproductions or is Oz Gun Sales selling an HF & Reproductions rifle and calling it original?

You are correct, Shamu. I had a choice of a Lithgow or BSA. Not knowing much about the rifle, I asked for his opinion. He had a 1919 Lithgow III* with matching receiver, bolt, nose cap and butt stock and suggested I would be very pleased with the finished product. After several months and a few minor issues (upper wood to fit the windage adjustable site) I received it and was totally satisfied! I believe I paid $875 CAD. I then of course had to purchase a P-H 5C he had (mentioned they were getting hard to find) which added another $300 CAD. I've only had it to the range once at 100 yards, but feel once I get familiar with the rifle and find out what it likes in regards to ammunition, it will post, for me, anyways, decent groups. I would definitely give you the blokes name and web site if you PM me. So that's $1175 CAD for what I think is a fine example of that model!

But that is slightly more tempered view than this earlier comment.
