Howdy all,
Thinking about these words as they come to text seem silly to me but I’ll ask anyways just to be quadrupolely sure: Was the ishapore 7.62 Enfield receiver rebuilt with better steel or were the receivers modified No4s?

The 2A1 rifle was built off the No. 1 Mk III* action, not a No. 4. I believe a different steel was used, I don’t have my copy of Skennerton with me at the moment.

Cool, I’ll do some digging too. Starting a 7.62 project in the coming months so I figured I’d ask - want to make sure a receiver is capable of handling 7.62.

I've heard several different version of this together with some pretty nasty in-fighting on other forums. Read widely, think constructively & take a SWAG is my stance.

Yes, I recall reading about this, and dodgy proof testing too IIRC.
