sigman88. I did some research on your wording, "No4Mk1 SHORTY." Came across various pictures of the Lee-Enfield No4 that have been,"Extremely Modified," by the End User to become what has been colloquially referred to as,"The Tanker." The wood has been extensively cut down and modified as well as the barrels and was not done from the factory. These are aftermarket modifications done by various factions, including the infamous backyard gunsmith. If this is what you are referring to, the only immediate option would be for you to find a couple of complete No4 forends and have a respectable stock maker make the necessary modifications you desire. The straight forward approach would be to find an aftermarket sporterized stock set by people such as RamLine, ATI, and Boyd's...

If its a Tanker you're looking for its easy to modify a stock No4 forend. Not Good, but easy! All they did was chopsaw through the original forend at the mid point of the front sling swivel band. If you look at a removed forend there are two lightening scallops cut out & the sling swivel band is at the center reinforce. Next figure out where you want the front end of the end cap to be so it doesn't quite contact the foresight block. Measure carefully to get the correct length of the front end & chopsaw again. This should be in the solid part in front of the cutout. Now drill into both pieces at the exact same position & cut a dowel to act as a spigot. It should be a tight(ish) fit. Now de-grease & use something like gorilla glue to make a solid, permanent joint & re-cut the groove for the sling swivel band. That's how they did it, but the originals have cheap glue & tend to be blown off downrange when you least expect it! I'd probably add a couple of cross pins to the mix to prevent that! Like this? |

I have heard and seen the references to a, "No4Mk1 SHORTY" from various other sites with no one explaining in detail what it is that they have and I can only make an assumption. A web search brings up multiple listings showing Tankers, especially the Gibbs versions using the No1Mk111 rifle but that is about it. The OP has yet to respond and my only other assumption is that it could actually be a No5Mk1 he or she is referencing. Time will tell, maybe...

I figured it should be. Basically the tanker & the "carbine" are both chopped rifles, just differing stocks.
