Hey,
I was in a LGS yesterday and there was a 410 Enfield in the rack. Not in the best of shape but complete. Bolt match the receiver and it was reworked in 1946. When I asked if it had exworked to US 410 the counter clown put in a three inch 410 she!! in the action and closed the bolt, it was a dummy round. The bolt closed fine and the cc said yes it is. I do think this is the correct method of checking. If it is a unmodified chamber a three she!! will not chamber, correct? Thanks

Odd as it sounds yes it is. The original rounds were considerably shorter & a different shape from the modern .410 rounds. If it was chambered for the original round it would stop short by almost 1/2 an inch.

yes - you are correct , the originals [i had one] was chambered for a fireformed 303 , even the modified [i had one of those too] was shambered for the standard 2 3/4" shot she!! , ive never seen one chambered for the 3" , im not certain what the preasure diffence is but i doubt there is concern considering what these were designed for as a 303 but might be worth a look ,

Questions on a 410 Enfield if I might.
Can you use rifled slugs in a 410 Enfield? The 2-1/2 she!!s should work fine, correct? You can use shot she!!s out of Enfield 410? The reason I am asking as 410 ammo is very hard to find. Thanks, Ed

It depends a bit. There were two ".410" chamberings. One used a blown out (short) 303 case, the other took a standard .410 she!!. If its a .410 chamber (try chambering a bog stock .420 slowly. If it fits you're GTG, it the bolt stops short no. If it fits you can shoot it. The blown out .303 will look a bit odd after firing though it its a modern re-chamber! |

so i had one with an original chamber for fire formed cases - these are hard to find but making your own are not too difficult and loading your own is not a bad experience , i also had one reamed out for US 23/4 " she!!s - they used to be easy to find and not that bad to buy [i gave them all to bear a bit back ]
both rifles were gone years ago and i sold my 410 coach gun a good while back , so i didnt need them , the 3" i never had and i know very little of it but ......i should think shooting slugs from these would not be a problem at all , i doubt the pressure would exceed the shot she!!s it was designed/modified for , there is also the 45 colt option i think , if you were to use cowboy loads [5 grains of red dot / clays / 700X ] should be very reasonable in one of these i should think , it works well in my BP revolvers that i have conversion cylinders for , a nice 200 grain bullet might serve as a slug not sure what might be considered a leagal round for hunting but ill tell you it would drop a deer , finding 410 rounds relight now is tuff , and you will pay through the nose fo0r anything you might find ,
