Arrived from a mate in 'Stralia today after a month-long customs saga.
He prefers to be a little behind the scenes, but thanks, mate, feel free to chip in if you feel the urge.
Beer Wink
Pics to follow.
It came with a target "ring" insert, but I want to get a set & the little carrier that screws to the bottom of the stock.
It'll partner nicely with the No9W rear sight I think.

I’d like to find one of those sights.  I find it really tough to hold consistent elevation when the sun is on the front sight blade.  Shading the rear sight can be done with a hat.  I shoot much better on cloudy days.

Will do, thanks.
Let me get the insert dimensions first so we are sure they'll fit.
(Couple of days), we're blizzarding again.
There's a bunch of similar but not interchangeable types & sizes.

They're tough to find for the SMLE because of the inclined front sight angle on the dovetail.
This was custom modified from a totally different sight.

The insert on the left, for the PH1 sight and similar is 15mm
The insert on the right for the FS21/Matchmaker and similar is 17mm.
I have alot of the 15mm inserts and the little brass keeper as well.

Let me scale the insert I have.

BUGGER!
its too wide across the tube to fit in between the "ears".
The nosecap is original so I don't want to modify it.
* Sigh* now I know why some are shown with the now unneeded protective Ears removed.
Which of course leads me to ask how delicate or difficult are non matching caps to fit properly?

Does the tunnel sight have the wedge to fit the original support?

Regarding the nose cap; I don't think there is an issue fitting a different nose cap. Just check the barrel contact with the muzzle.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

Yes it does that was one of the custom bits. The angles best to match the support.

I did find this, but its a bit vague.
"Test the seating of the fore-end, and adjust as necessary, taking care to keep the bottom of the groove level with the bottom of the barrel hole in the nose-cap, using a straightedge of sufficient length for the purpose. The fore-end should seat on the base of the body, especially at the front end for 1½ inches at least, on the barrel at the reinforce, and from half an inch in rear of the inner band recess to the nose-cap. The guard screw- collar should bear on the boss of the body; and its outer end should be slightly below the guard seating (about .01 inch). The fore-end must be clear of the barrel from the front of the reinforce up to a point half an inch from the inner band recess; it should fit closely between the sear lugs and the face of the butt socket of the body. The inner band recess should be of sufficient depth to ensure that the inner band can be drawn down on to the barrel.
  1. As accuracy of shooting and sighting may be affected by the new fore-end, the rifle should be submitted to the O.C., the Company or Squadron, etc., for accuracy test, the foresight to be adjusted as necessary.

Finally I got the time to measure the insert I have, sorry it's in inches, not mm but I can convert them.

Outside Dia 1.247" (31.6738)mm
width across "ears" 1.310" (33.274)mm
narrow ear width 0.052" (1.32588)mm
Wide ear width 0.082" (2.0828)mm
what do you have please I'm interested.
