That's what it looks like to me. 2 guesses, the bayonet lugs looked "unsporting", or the muzzle was cord-worn from poor use of a pull through.

thats a bummer for restoration , but im wondering if gibbs was required to remove the evil lug when they converted these ? anyone know , im not a gibbs owner and never was but i understood they did good work for sporters - never my cup of tea but they were around and well respected in that realm back when i was into enfields a lot
