I have finally completed my collection of WWII rifles.  I wanted to get rifles from the U.S., England, Germany, and Russia.  I wasn't real interested in the Arisaka's from Japan.

I bought a fixer-up for 500.00 US. It's in pretty bad shape, but I couldn't afford one that was in great shape.  Besides, I'll get to know the garand better if I have to take it apart and restore it.  I have never shot one before, so I'm looking forward to taking it to the range.

anyone have any advice on the m-1 garand?  I would greatly appreciate it.

Eric

I brought a M1 years ago to use on Water Buff ! It must of been the only bad one ever built ! Not only did it handle & look like a Pregnant Duck ! It had the most uneveing habbit of breaking something (normaly expensive ) a least 200miles from the nearest Gunsmith! I also lost count of the number of clips that ejected over my shoulder & landed with a Plop in to a swamp behind me never to be seen again !

    By the same token I know of Blokes who swore by them ! Enjoy your new addition & I'm sure your going to have the fun of cork restoreing it!

Congrats on the new rifle Eric, I have never owned a Garand but I have heard only good things about them.

I just bought a 45-70 Marlin to try out on the black bears here on Vancouver Island.

PS,  Vancouver Island  has the biggest black bears in Canada

Well each to his own.  Personaly I am a fan of bolt rifles.
I've seen the future and I don't like it.

Eric;
I had an M-1 garand.I wish I could say I enjoyed it.Mine was 1945 vintage.I came to the conclusion that it was a rifle made for dummies.When you stop to think of it, it was quite an engineering feat.It was made so that the simplest individual could readily understand it.It was given the title of "America's Rifle". Personally, I found it to be too heavy, too inaccurate, & too expensive to use.(Always losing those stupid clips!!)
In the end, I recieved a call one day from a Reg't Sgt Maj V.Knestel, U.S.Army. He wanted to know if I would be interested in selling my M-1 back to Uncle Sam.
(Technically illegal) Since I had been recently laid off from my job & didn't know how long i'd be off - I agreed.
I threw in a bag of carriers, bayonet & scabbard, sling, & a nearly full box of BLAC TALON ammo.
Can't say I've missed not having it anymore - till I get on sites like this!
