Unfortunatly i havent got any pics yet. the digi cam has some propblem with it... (lame)

We (my dad and i) went to the state forrest on monday and tuesday in search for the mighty pig. i had the enfield and the ol man had his .223REM. Anywho it took us about 2 hours of driving through the thick as sh*t bush to get to a camping site. seeing as thought its cold we didnt expect anyone else to be around. so we set up the campsite and off we went with the rifles. We had been asked by the DSE to take as many as possible because they were being a huge pest.

after about  1 1/2 hours we were wondering if we were going to see anything. about 10 mins later we stumbled (i quite literally mean stumbled) on a mob of pigs all fast asleep about 10m away. slowly and quietly we loaded the rifles (i used 2 charger clips full of winchester ammo, 180grn projectile. i decided i would go military style and do the "hold the bolt with your thumb and index finger and fire with my middle finger".  we backed out to about 30m (taking about half an hour to do so). earplugs in, rifle on reast, glases on, we were ready. i had about 13 in view but i knew i could probebly take about 3 or 4, my dad had about 15 or 16 in view but he knew he could only take 1 or 2. this mob was huge about 25 or 30 of them. we were both ready, safty off, finger on trigger, the only thing left was to shoot the bastards.

I let her rip, the 1918 beast was in full flight. i was doing my best to shoot the bastards as good as i could, i let off 1 shot then 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 6 then 7 then 8 then 9 then 10. overall it was about 2 mins of action.

the damage was devestating on the mob. my dad took down 4 pigs, all headshots, i took down 6, the first shot i took went through 3 pigs and 5 other shots hit and 4 missed hitting tree's and blowing the side's out .

so overall we took 10 pigs, most of them male.

DAM MY ENFIELD ROCKS!!!

i cant belive we did it. it took us about 3 and a half hours to take them and the mob didnt wake up untill we started shooting. good day for conservation. 15 shots and 10 pigs. lucky seeing as though i only bought 20 rounds. 4 charger clips.

So the persuit was on. i ran off in a hurry wile my dad stayed behind to finish off the not so dead one's and to remove the tusks, i re-loaded with 5 rounds and took the rifle to my shoulder, with the sights already set for long distance i could see one runnig of, so i shot it. poor bugger, i missed the body and took its front leg out. but i quickly moved the bolt to re chamber a round, and i semi missed againg hitting the bugger in its rear legs. at least it was immobalised. so on the 3rd shot i finally got it in the back of the head. with 2 shots remaining i went for another go at some more that were to fat to run fast.  the shot passed through the ass end of one and smashed into the body of another (like i said one big mob), quickly realoading i took another shot to finish of the straggler of the group.

so in all i had 15 shots taken with 8 pigs and my dad took 4. 12 pigs aint bad for a mob of 30 or so.

i have to say, big caliber + large round capacity = alot of dead little piggies

it was so much fun. all that time effort and energy went into that monent of about 5 mins. it was a great day as on the way back we saw 3 bunnies and a fox, all taken with the .223 unfortunatly .

those 5 mins were action packed though, it was like a scene out of a WW2 movie.  but it was a fun day.

Sounds like a great day with your dad.  I'm envious of all the fun times. I sure wish i had more opportunities like that with my dad. I don't know how old you are Dunno, but sherish these special times.
