I was at a gun show over the weekend and saw a really nice m1 carbine. It's perfect for restoring. This would be the only the 3rd rifle that I hae purchased that's NOT and Enfield. Each time I've bought something other than an Enfield, I have felt like I'm doing something wrong. Oh well! I can't wait to pick it up. I live in CA and I don't have a C&R FFL, so I'll have to wait 10 days. I wonder if I should get and FFL? Anyone have any thoughts about either the m1 carbine, or getting an FFL?

M1 carbines can be a lot of laughs ! For plinking ect & rapid fire
. But as Cookie monster said they were designed as a close quater
fighting weapon ! THey were popular over here for years for shooting
Pigs at close range . But lets face it they are balisticly in the 32-20
-357 class (but their fun to shoot )

My great uncle-a Korean war vet-siad they weren't worth crap (He didn't word it quite like that though). Up until recently They were banned for large game (white tail, black bear, etc.)hunting here in Minnesota because the state DNR felt they did not have enough power.

We USED to be able to own 'em here, but can't now.(See senseless Canadian Laws) They used the "barrel is too short" routine to ban them - so people went out & attached flash suppressors. Then they said a suppressor ISN'T part of the barrell, so some folks had the barrells lenghtened an inch or so.Then they said, an altered barrel can't be considered for minimum length laws.So in the end, we lose out-again.(Course, It didn't help our cause that they found that M-1 carbine is easily converted to auto.) The end result is we lose another toy.
I never owned one - but have fired 'em a couplea times with my Yank buds. I agree, they are fun! Hoadie |
