Whats the correckt wood material for the buttstock, rear and front handguard and olso the main under handguard for a 1917 mod made in UK? It seams to be a lot of possibleties for this rifles in ebay. Is valnut the correckt material?

The but stock on the British made SMLE is usually walnut.
The one shown in the image is an unused No.4 stock and it fitted without any modification.

Yes, all the wood for a 1917 dated & UK produced SMLE would have been walnut originally. Best, Richard.

what you are seeing on the net for sale is a large number of indian and austrailian wood moetly indian , these could be anything the australian would be coachwood i think , others more knowledgeable about current offerings will be more accurate ,
you want walnut for that vintage of english made rifle ,

To rebuild my MKIII See image in my last post) was.. Bottom fore end £40... Butt stock (No.4) £27.
The top hand guards were OK. Total £67 this should convert straight into $'s. and with some change in euro's. If you budget for £100 it would seem a no brainer to me. Remember all the bits I got were in walnut and in the last 6 months and all of the new/unissued.

Think I overpayed for the parts in ebay, seems like others than me colleckts parts, so price for a foreend stock in unused condition easely passes 200£
