If anyone out there has a sporting Enfield with a tang safety, can you tell me if the unit is attached to the butt socket or the butt stock wood ??

The isn't really much of a tang on a Lee Enfield and the side mount will work with most scope mounts so I don't see the need

More of a speed of operation thing than anything else IMO. Tang safes are fast.

My shooting style is with my right thumb laying on the right side parallel with the wrist. That puts it right beside the safety slider. Instant access.
