I ordered a refinished fore stock for a #4 mk1. although it has the 2 little pin holes in the rear , there is no cut out for the metal band. The stock to be replaced has the metal band in the rear. Can anyone explain should there be one? Thanks

i am only guessing here because we have no photos to aid in your narative but it sounds like you got a "reproduction" not a refinished upper handguard [correct me if i am wrong] you can remove the clip from your original and fit it to the new but you need some special rivets and washers to do it right ,
if on the other hand you actually mean a forestock and you are referring to the bracket at the rear near the trigger i should think that could be done as well but ive never messed in that are other than installing thrust blocks ounce - someone else with more experience will chime in soon , |

Please post pictures of the part in question and we can help accordingly. If you are referring to the foreend, then yes, it should have the reinforcement band added. As A_Square noted, it is a much different thing dealing with the metal for a a handguard (which we have seen it referred to as a fore-stock before).

I think he's talking about a Mk1 style forend, not handguard?" If I'm guessing right the reinforce strap is missing from the back face of the fore-end wood! I'm wondering if maybe he has a Mk 2 style with the hole for the cross bolt & the center cut out for the Mk2 hanging trigger bracket? O.P. is the wood removed in the middle or solid all the way across?

thats what i suspected but was going with the handguard clips as they come up in reproductions more often than a forestock , i also considered the barrel band in the forestock but rethought that as there would not be any 'hole' for that save the bolt hole

Shamu, I never thought about it possibly being a Mk 2 foreend but that makes sense. Again, pictures would really help in this case.

Thanks for quick replys I'm replacing a chopped lower forestock. The original has the metal band across the rear and wood is closed. The stock I got from Numrich is listed as original but refinished, "sanded" prob a take off from parts gun. It has a open back. So I guess its a MK2? Will it fit ? Currently the receiver is at the FFl ,so I cant check right now. I'm using it for a SIA conversion.

It will fit, sort of. You'll need to fake the missing bit of wood in the middle though, no big deal, & then find the cross bolt & its nut, which is a bit harder.

The cross bolt with nut can be bought newly made from a company online if so desired.
