On the underside of my rear sight tangent is EFD over E3 and several other places on the Rifle I have Broad arrow over EFD over FO and EFD over DD over 3 and EFD over 17. I understand EFD stands for
Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield Lock but did they make parts or is this an inspection stamp or some type of F T R mark or what?? My rifle is a 1917 BSA.  Thanks.

hi Bear43. Inspection marks as in the BSA factory where it was produced, the government proof house or some type of FTR marking if it came back for refit? If you know.  Thanks and cheers!

Proof house markings are a whole different beast. The inspection markings you see were applied at manufacture, possibly at factory repair, there is no way of knowing. The only thing it tells us is the parts were inspected and approved at some point in the life of the rifle.

Yes, as Bear says.
The EFD  plus number are Enfield inspection marks.
