Someone had brought up the topic about the rifle in Crocodile Dundee. I made a thumbhole stock and actually do not like it. I cannot find the original picture I posted of it so I put the stock on my faux PH. Any and all comments are welcone, good or bad. It's still not finished either. I just keep shelving it.

A valiant effort and with your proven skills should turn out pretty cool.

Thank you. I have been working on this for over a year now and I keep putting it back in the box for a maybe later. Here's my issue with it. Still have to make the hole bigger, and I still do not like the way it looks. It's too short as well. When I do add the recoil pad,the stock will end up the same length as a bantam butt stock. The dangle part looks like the dork of an elephant.

The grip angle would be too vertical for me. This one was darn near perfect, but on a Remington action. |

I found a few good pics of Mick with the Lee Enfield. His pistol grip is about 50-60 degree angle from the bottom of the stock. Yours looks 75-85? His pistol grip is shorter. Also, his rifle has a front barrel band in which a sling swivel is attached. His front end wood is proud of the band by about 1 1/2". Just my observations...

Did you notice he never put his thumb in the hole? I do not like my stock HT. I don't like the fit or feel of it. I made one right after the movie came out and the best solution me and my buddy came up with to bolt it to the buttsocket was with a helicoil in the stock itself and then a bolt through the front of the buttsocket. It held together for the first shot. You can obviously get a thumbhole stock to work but they will still look wrong on an Enfield.

You can't see it clearly on my image but the actual hole is MUCH bigger on it. The grip is deceptive because its much smaller at the top than the bottom. If you went with a center-line I'd say about that but because of the shape it feels like a more shallow angle. The cut in the stock behind the hole is way bigger & goes further back at a shallower angle too. I wouldn't have risked it if the stock wasn't a laminate. I wonder about the barrel band with a 2-piece stock too. Mid barrel bedding on a sporter? Hmmmmm? He does use the thumbhole some times.
