Hi
I have a 1950's Long Branch No4 Mk1*, serial no 92L9***. No obvious barrel date. Normal British sold out of service marks on underside of muzzle (.303 etc) Seems a bit strange to me that a Canadian Mk1* would have entered British service at a time after the British were producing their own Mk2's. Lee Enfield = anything goes. On looking closely at the barrel I found some markings that I'm not quite sure of, anyone any ideas? 1) Either a B or the LB mark followed by numbers 315. 2) BT above 15503. 3) A six pointed star. 4) Downward pointing crossed swords, B in left segment, C in right segment and 4 in lower segment. Many thanks

The 6 pointed star is likely to be the British 'Sold out of service' mark. It is in fact two 'Broad Arrow' marks one pointed toward the other.

From the location, these would seem to more likely be British civilian proof marks. Do the markings include 2.222" text? If they are civil proof marks, that does not necessarily indicate service in British forces, but rather that the rifle has been, in effect, passed as safe for sale in the UK.
