It gets y'all talking at least. I've been messing with old military surplus stuff for 40 years and am still leaning about the Enfields. I've done a bit of reading about the various changes made to the No1 series and just finished rebuilding a Savage No4 Mk1* with a bunch of help from the folks here. So.. Were there No2 and No3 rifles made ? Failed prototypes, etc. anything ? I can't imagine them jumping from No1 to No4 with nothing in between.

If I remember correctly, the No 2 was a .22 training rifle, and the No 3 was the 1914-pattern rifle that was mostly made in the US?

The No2s were  SMLEs as the No2 MkIV* & the No1 MkIII  sleeved for the .22 RF.
The No3 was the "American Enfield P-14"

yes and there were other mks too , the mkV & mkVI were the transition from no1 to no 4 there were trials and transition respectively , these are advanced collectibles tho , not real eassily found , to start look at the no1s [SMLEs] and no4 as well as the no5 , they are findable commonly , the no3 is also findable and belongs in your accumulation ,

then there are the earlier ones - variations on the long lees and the mkI sequence , you have much research to cover ,

...this is why we are so intrigued with Enfields! NOTHING is "normal", & there is ALWAYS something we didn't know that comes to light.
