I would like to know which bayonets are most often faked? and also does anyone have a picture database on fakes for identification purposes? I am looking at a Long Branch bayonet No4 MKII and wondered if these have been faked?

Probably not. Most of the fakes were the older "Hookies" IIRC. |

I found a NZ marked LB one that will work well with the NZ marked rifle I have coming, I was just wondering if these were reproduced or faked.

no - in the no4 series it would be the mkI that was faked - the cruciform , you should be good with any mkII

Appreciate the info, I can see why the cruciform ones are reproduced, I don't see very many of those around in my searches, what's a good way of telling a fake on one of those?

The best and easiest way is to check for the correct stampings.

The No4MkI cruciform bayonnet was only made by Singer. As per the marking's on Goosic's example. They are worth probably 10 times that of the No4MkII spike version; which is why you may see faked ones for sale. When the someone tries to make a fake No4Mk1 cruciform spike bayonnet from a No4MkII spike; they will have to shorten the tip of the spike to get the correct shape. So knowing the correct length is useful. If they try and make the cruciform without shortening the spike; it will be obvious that the point is not correctly shaped as per an original. There's plenty of photo's of originals. The No4MkII versions are very easy to find. There are some different scabard's that may make a price difference; such as the bakelite version.

The No.4 MII bayonets are far too inexpensive to make them worth faking.
Over here you can get a bayonet for £5 and one with a scabbard for £10.

the nice part is - most any mk of the no4 is correct for a given rifle unless you match to age and if not the bo 7 & no 9s as well ,

Ayup chaps,
Here is a list of bayonets from my own experience, that I have found to be faked in regular occurrence… P1907 Hooked Quillion. No4 Mk1 Cruciform. Australian 'Owens'. No5 Jungle Carbine. |
