I think I did just enough of a restoration without overdoing it. To me it matches the rifle perfectly! |

Shamu have you set it up using the laser pointer? If you line up the original sights and the dioptre; you should be close to where you need to be.
One thing I did when fitting the No9 to my rifle; was flipping the rear sight notch upside down.(Non windage type). When shooting at 200 metres it is visible and a distraction. I filed off the ridge from the underside of sight notch as well to give a clear sight picture. If I need to use the standard sight, I just need to flip it back over. |

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

I did something similar, but I got a spare rear sight leaf & ground away the flat vertical portion. If I want to swap back I just return the original. I did use the original open sight & double-checked it by bore sighting, but I didn't use a laser.

I have a slightly different version of that sight, with some slightly odd markings, I've asked about this in a couple of places, and I'd love to hear the opinion of the fine folks here. What do you think of this one - marked Alf'd Parker, 13 Cecil Street B'ingham, nothing else. It's fitted with a 6 hole BSA rotary aperture.

That's very nice. I would think it's an earlier version than the one Shamu has or the No9 I have. |

Yes thats a slightly earlier version folded down for storage, the pic is rotated 90 degrees. They were made by both BSA & Parkers of Parker-Hale fame. The model & maker should be marked on it somewhere usually the flat below the sight arm. Mine is a "9G" with the longer windage arm, the earlier versions were for either the Long Lee or the Martini action. That one has an SMLE mount bracket though. |
