he!!o from Nashville, TN. Long time collector of 20th century battle rifles and member of other similar boards. I've had a 1964 Ishapore for many year but shoots horrible groups (6+" @ 100yds). I'm hoping to learn how to get this to a 2-3 MOA rifle as it should be.

Welcome from Atlanta.
Getting these rifles to shoot can be a fun, and frustrating, project. Make sure you find out how to disassemble the rifle, particularly how to remove the forend, before you tackle this. It can easily be damaged by removing it.
I’m quite familiar with how to set up a No. 4 rifle, but there are differences with the No. 1, particularly in barrel bedding. The No. 1 is a bit trickier to get to shoot well. We have some members here that should come aLong and give you some ideas. How does the bore look? A borescope is useful, along with a set of pin gages to see how worn it is. What ammo are you using? |

welcome ,
good luck on that endeavor , those rifles were meant to shoot that way , minute of man thing and the indians and pakistanis have been using them to great advantage for a long time , im not telling you it cant happen , it was just not designed to do that in that area , i had a number of them over the years , you are getting better results with yours than i ever did with my mk#s , 2As or 2A1s - now the shotguns did what they were supposed to do from the get go , i had a couple of those too

Big 'Howdy' from Texas! I have a 2A that refuses to shoot better than 4 moa no matter what I feed it so I've realized I'm just going to have to lower my expectations for it.

1: Thorough bore cleaning. may need repeating multiple times to get
decades of set in crud out! Use a non scrubbing & NO AMMONIA bore
cleaner! Let chemistry be your friend. Wet bore leave overnight muzzle
down, patch out, repeat as needed. I use "Hoppes Elite" or "M-Pro-7" "Bore cleaner" & "Copper Remover", there are other good ones also. 2: Check the crown. Minor nicks there can ruin accuracy but are easy to fix. 3: Learn & understand Lee-Enfield 2-piece stock bedding. 4: Fix any problems you discovered in "3". 5: get some decent modern ammo & test from a bench. 6: (Sorry, you're gong to hate this one) get better sights! Those issue sights are not very good. Look up Parker-hale, BSA & other "Target sights for Lee Enfield". $$$$pendy, but worth it if the earlier steps show promise. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks. The older more beat up one is actually the same in both images, but the rear sights have been exchanged, the Parker-Hale PH5A has been replaced by an A.G. Parker No9W. The 5A must be removed or clicked about 58 times to get the bolt out for cleaning, but the #9W simply folds out of the way. The 5A is probably a marginally better sight, but the 9W is way more convenient.
