I reblued my Santa Fe magazine.  I polished it in three stages using jewelers rouge for the final finish.  The follower and spring assembly were cleaned an refurbished as well. After final cleaning was done and a quick soak in 90% alcohol, I applied the Perma Blue paste allowing it to penatrate the metal for a minute and then a rinse in cold water. I applied the bluing twice more, patted it down after the final rinse and put a thin layer of Bag Balm, " Lanolin and Paraffin Wax" over the bluing. When i came back to wipe off the Bag Balm I noticed that the Santa Fe stamp was highlighted red. I thought it was a trick of the lighting.  It is not a trick of the lighting. It is also to be noted that the magazine appears to have a case hardened look to it now as well. I like the new look.

It looks like it but it is not color case hardened.  That is Birchwood Casey Perma Blue paste straight from the tube.

Yes I read the post, sorry I phrased my reply poorly. It should have said "the look of color case hardening"!
