Those holes were drilled then tapped holes made to mount a scope base to. Many sporterized examples have these D&T holes. They won't affect the proper functioning of the rifle but do affect collector value and interest. But if the barrel has been shortened then no affect/ The thread pitch I don't know about but if you were to find a suitable scope mount and wanted to mount a scope to it then knowing the thread pitch is most important. More photos of the rifle would be nice to see. Welcome to the forum!
